Cuándo usarla
- A technician needs a replacement part and it's not in inventory
- Ordering OEM vs. aftermarket parts decision (warranty implications)
- Bulk ordering parts for upcoming scheduled maintenance (oil filters, brake pads ahead of winter)
- Processing a parts return or cores (batteries, brake rotors)
- Handling a back-ordered part with an urgent ETA
- Comparing dealer cost vs. list price for parts pricing
- Managing parts orders from multiple sources: dealer warehouse, OEM distribution center, aftermarket suppliers
Errores que conviene evitar
- Ordering parts without an RO number attached — parts get received into stock instead of to the specific job, and the customer gets billed for them or the tech can't find them
- Not checking for supersessions — ordering an obsolete part number that has been replaced by a new version means waiting twice as long when it inevitably comes back as "superseded"
- Confusing customer-authorized parts orders with warranty parts — warranty parts must be billed to the manufacturer, not to the customer, even if the part physically came from the same bin
- Letting cores accumulate indefinitely — each core has a credit value sitting on a shelf; return them monthly to recoup the cash
- Not checking the shelf location in DMS before running to the parts room — a tech spending 10 minutes looking for a part is 10 minutes of lost labor billing
